Scrappin’ Saturday — Belle Meade #1

After our sobering visit to Carnton Plantation, we were caught in a serious storm.  Luckily, it was almost time for lunch, and we waited out the rain with delicious food from Puckett’s in front of us.  Wish I had taken pictures of that place — marvelous!

In the afternoon, we left Franklin to visit another plantation.  No war history here; the farm (at one time 5,400 acres) raised  Thoroughbred horses.  Yes, in the late 1800s horse racing was great sport!

This page is pretty straightforward. I wanted to use the En Franςais stamp as a background because the plantation’s name is French (for “beautiful meadow”).  Delicate sprigs from the Always stamp set were “stamped” in various opacity settings and rotated or mirrored.

More next week on Belle Meade.

Scrappin’ Saturday — The 2-page spread

I quickly (10 minutes) whipped up the second of the two-page spread for Carnton Plantation.  You can see the first page here.

Aligning objects is a snap in My Digital Studio — literally.  Selecting the Snap to Grid option ensures that items can’t be slid just anywhere on the page.  It’s as if there are little bumpers that keep them in place.  Secondly, you can select more than one object (for example, the two bottom pictures here), and select Align Bottom.

To make sure I had continuity between the two pages, I simply made a duplicate of the first page, then stripped out the elements I didn’t want to keep (most of them!).  I re-used the star motif as another way to tie the two pages together.

Stampin’ Up! added more digital downloads for MDS this week.  I thought they were going to do this just once a month, but it’s been more often than that.  It’s hard to keep up!  Luckily, a fellow demonstrator created a checklist for us to use to keep track of what’s offered and what we have already downloaded.  You’ll find it here, on the Resources page of my blog.  When there are changed, I’ll updated it, and you’ll be able to tell if it’s current by the date.

Scrappin’ Saturday — Back to the book

And now, page two!  My challenge with some of my pictures is avoiding a layout that’s too fun or bright.  The Civil War sites we visited were beautiful, but very tragic.  It was a lovely morning when we were here, but the story of the property was an unsettling contrast.

I see I’ve forgotten to leave enough room for the “binding” — the holes for the rings.  Luckily, I can just re-open the file and fix it!

Scrappin’ Saturday — An introduction to My Digital Studio

I was happy to see Stampin’ Up!’s new video on My Digital Studio, since I’m not sure how easy it is to grasp the concept of digital scrapping without actually seeing it.  Have I said what a skeptic I was toward this concept?  Couldn’t visualize not handling the paper or the embellishments, not cropping the photos, not writing the story.

Of course, one problem with traditional scrapbooking for me is that there are too many decisions to be made.  The “canvas” is too big.  And my pictures are the wrong size.  My journaling has to be done on the computer, so there’s much running up and down the stairs.

So the reality is that I liked to scrapbook, but it was excruciatingly slow.  I look back at my work and I think the designs have stood the test of time — it’s just that there’s so little work to look at!

With MDS I am so much more productive and I have more fun scrapping.  I’ll just leave it at that!  Why not view the video below and decide for yourself?

Scrappin’ Saturday — The vacation book page 1

I took advantage of the recent new downloads for My Digital Studio so that I could use them in my vacation mini book. This page uses Textured Card Stock and the Medium Jewelry Tag Punch.  Less than $1 for that punch download!  And I never left my chair!

This page is simply a 1/4 sheet of card stock.  I plan on printing this on a half sheet folded in half, like a tent card.  This page will be printed at the bottom; page 2 will be printed on the top but rotated 180° so that when the paper is folded, the fold is at the top of each page.  Can’t picture it?  When I get this all printed — need to make sure my inks are full — I’ll show you!

So this is the beginning of the vacation scrapbook, using the Briefcase On Board Book from the Summer Mini.  I wasn’t originally thinking My Digital Studio, but conventional scrapping takes me so long to make decisions.  Much easier in MDS!  I can change my mind over and over.  It appeals to my inability to leave well enough alone.  Ahem.
